As tributes keep flowing in after the demise of the recently departed leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, leading indigenous apostolic churches have expressed their view that his departure represents a significant loss for all Christian and faith communities worldwide.

Upon returning from a seven-day spiritual retreat in Tanzania, Johane Masowe eChishanu Jerusalem leader Madzibaba Biggie Musanzika (who is also referred to as Prophet Jonah) commented that Pope Francis stands out as an authentic representative of his Catholic community.

“We are deeply grieved by the departure of the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis. This loss has impacted not just the Vatican, but the global religious community as a whole,” stated Musanzika.

All clergy members unite with the global community in profound grief over the death and succession of Pope Francis, the Bishop of Rome, on Easter Monday.

As clergy members from Africa, we seize this opportunity to commend his remarkable devotion as a disciple, his efforts towards building a fair society, and his dedication to promoting religious and ethical integrity.

Musanzika added: “Pope Francis’ efforts towards religious tolerance and coexistence have facilitated the growth of various faiths in a world characterized by multifaceted beliefs and ethical diversity.”

The late pontiff will undoubtedly be recalled for his efforts promoting the rights of migrants, addressing economic disparities, and advocating for social equity and ecclesiastical changes.

At the same time, Musanzika was warmly welcomed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by numerous followers, including key figures from the church hierarchy. These leaders showed their appreciation for both President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Second Republic’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding religious freedoms within various church groups across the African continent.
