India Summons Pakistan’s Top Diplomat in Delhi, Declares Military Attachés as Personae Non Gratae: Sources

‘s top diplomat in Delhi,
Saad Ahmad Warraich
, and handed over the formal Persona Non Grata note for its military diplomats, according to sources.

India
His response follows an attack by terrorists that left 26 people dead and multiple individuals injured during an assault on tourists.
Pahalgam
in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The attack in the

area of Anantnag district turned a place once known for its tranquillity into a site of mourning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (
CCS
), which lasted over two hours. The meeting was attended, among others, by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister
S Jaishankar
.

The Ministry of External Affairs briefed mediapersons on Wednesday about the slew of measures announced in the wake of the terrorist attack which took place in
Pahalgam
.

Foreign Secretary
Vikram Misri
indicated that acknowledging the severity of the terrorist attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (
CCS
) agreed on the following actions, which encompassed five main choices.

Misri stated, “The advisors for Defense/Military, Navy, and Air Force in the
Pakistan
The High Commission officials in New Delhi have been declared Persona Non Grata. They must depart within a week.

will remove its own Defense/ Navy/Air Advisers from the

The positions at the High Commission in Islamabad have been rendered obsolete. Additionally, five support staff members associated with the Service Advisors will be recalled from both High Commissions.

He further stated that the Integrated Check Post at Attari would close immediately. Misri commented, “Individuals who have entered with proper authorization can go back via this checkpoint before May 1, 2025.”

Other measures decided upon by the
CCS
include the abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty “with immediate effect, until
Pakistan
credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism”.

Misri also said that

i nationals will not be permitted to travel to
India
Under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Visa Exemption Scheme (VES), visas are not required.

“Any SVES visas granted previously to

The nationals have been declared canceled. Any

with an SVES visa must depart within 48 hours

,” Misri said.

The
Foreign Secretary
indicated that additional cuts, to be implemented by May 1, 2025, will reduce the total personnel at the High Commissions to 30 from their current number of 55.

Misri informed journalists that the
CCS
He reviewed the general security situation and instructed all units to remain at elevated alert levels. He stated, “We have decided that those responsible for the assault will face justice, along with their backers.” (ANI)
